Sky watch friday from Myken

Sky watch on Myken island and Myken lighthouse

Myken is a charming island in Nordland, far off the coast of northern Norway. It is about 25 km above the Arctic Circle and 32 km from the nearest mainland. Myken has the coordinates of 66 degrees 45.7 minutes North and 12 degrees 29.6 minutes East. There are 14 people living on Myken on a permanent basis. People live on the biggest of the 40 islands that make up Myken.

Myken Lighthouse is let to groups of 4-8 persons and will give the visitors a memorable stay in the living quarters of the former lighthouse keeper. The lighthouse is situated on an island of its own, facing the Myken community on the other side of the sheltered harbour. The residents can enjoy a spectacular 360 degrees view as far as the eye can see.

I love these. The lines of the power pole make a wonderful abstract design. Thanks for taking us to the lighthouse.

I am now taking a diminishing dose of steroids for my Rheumatoid Arthritis pain and it works. I believe the chemotherapy drug is spelled "Methotrexate" that is used to treat a lot of things from cancer to arthritis will be used next. I just relish in being pain free.

So I am not participating in Sky Watch Friday just because I might not be able to make it around to all.

I enjoyed seeing your blog post for Sky Watch Friday and I thought your photography was excellent.

I don't know if you like to read or not but if you do this place is amazing.

I just got my first shipment of used books from Strand's bookstore in New York City, yesterday.

They have 18 miles of used books. Think about that. Anyway, they got here and I am totally happy with those I chose to read. I had to start out by just choosing a category, like photography, and go from there.

I don't know how in the world they can keep track of so many books.

Look up Strand bookstore or copy and paste the URL here: http://www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/home/

Pretty one for SWF! Which reminds me the quote... "we all live under the same sky, but we don't all have the same horizon".... Mine's up too hope you can drop by. Happy Weekend!

Myken is a beautiful, if isolated, place. Being so far north, I marvel that even 14 people choose to live there year round.
Your photographs are all lovely; stunning clarity and wonderful color. The shot from inside the lighthouse is remarkable! Thanks for a lovely Sky Watch.

Hi Anneka, thanks for the link. Wow the Myken is remote. Do the residents stay there in the winter months?
I would be too cold for me - Africa is too deep in my blood now.
Btw, I did enjoy the other site as well.

Wonderful! I really enjoyed this post. It's so unusual to see through the lighthouse windows.
